Title: "Ocarinafest" in Columbia, MO (or, Mo' MO's in MO)
Post by: shan on January 03, 2009, 01:31:31 am
Did you all hear that there's going to be some sort of ocarina shindig in Missouri later this year (August-ish)?  I heard it on DocJazz4's latest installment (here: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=k51e-uvAaGg)

Dude, that'd be boss!

Road trip anyone?

This sounds like fun.  Do you think we can get Cliff a pass to leave the Home for Shy Ocarinists for a few days?

I'd really like to attend this but sadly I don't think I will be able to attend since I live fairly far away from there :(

If I am lucky I will find a way to go!

This is not far from me at all ! maybe 5/6 hour drive total. I live in Nebraska so just have to go south. I've driven to missouri several times, especially to Kansas City, Lawrence, St Joseph, and rockport-to buy fireworks! I had some family in arkansas so I've been all around the area. I think I will be able to make this gathering! Hope some of you folks can too! Peace, Dan

You guys are the first to hear about it, but here is the new website for all future Festival updates: http://ocarinafestival.net

What do you think sounds better: OcFest or OcarinaFest? I'd like to know before this thing gets any bigger, lol.

I vote for "OcarinaFest", for what can matter the opinion of a non native english speaker nor a participant to the event  :'(

Spatolo,
Welcome back man! Where ya been? :)

Beautiful days on the snow! Pictures will follow.
(better stop hijacking this one more thread I think, or Cliff will ban us from the forum FOREVER)  ;D Thanks your your welcome!

I don't have a strong opinion about the name.

With that said, OcFest has a nice ring to it. It is true that, unlike "BeerFest," not everyone will immediately grasp the focus of an OcFest. However, most people still have never heard of ocarinas anyway, and OcFest could sound intriguing. (What in the world is an OcFest?) A descriptive subtitle would clarify the purpose of the gathering: the first annual US gathering of worldwide ocarina fans, or something like that.

So, after typing this post, I think OcFest is catchier than OcarinaFest. Still, I hesitate to disagree with Spatolo. After all, he supports my family by buying so many ocarinas true Italian blood runs in his veins, and vessal flutes were first called ocarinas in Italy. :)

I think you're onto something, Karl.

Maybe it should be called BeerFest!

both are dangerously close to OktoberFest. (i wonder how many will make the mistaken connection/assumption.)

perhaps it could be called ... "The Great and Grand Gathering of Gregarious Gatherers with their Gathered Together Gawd-Awful Gourd-shaped Noise Makers?"

be well,

jim

I don't know, Jim.  Your suggestion of such a long title makes me think that you've been infected with verbosity by watching too many of my videos. As a compromise, what if we substituted your long title with a simple acronymn? We could call the OcFest the GAGGOGGWTGTGAGSNM.

I'm good with that. and when people ask:

"How do you pronounce GAGGOGGWTGTGAGSNM?"

we can reply:

"Ocfest."

be well,

jim

I don't know why, but my urge to buy five more high end mountain ocarinas suddenly vanished. What a mysterious thing. Who knows why...

Man, I wish there was some cheaper airline prices soon so Spatolo and all our other friends overseas could come and visit! Keep your eyes open y'all! Dan

It's funny you mention that because there's actually going to be a festival this May in Budrio, Italy - home of the first Ocarinas! I was thinking about going...Spatolo, can I stay with you? ;D

Hey, we could ALL stay with Spatolo!  And by eating all our meals at his house, we would save enough money to be able to afford the plane tickets.

You are all welcome!

Wait, I have to ask to my woman. She is the boss of the house, me I'm only the musician.

Seriously; I'd love to host you; and I don't think that this could be a problem for my woman too; if it's for a few days and I warn her in advance (and there is time do to that).
The problem is, that I don't live so close to Budrio, the town where the modern ocarina is born (actually, in my opinion the modern ocarina is the mountain ocarina, anyhow).
How many days the festival will last?

We can arrange a solution. Now that I discovered it; I sincerely plan to get there.

Wow...I was sort of joking, but if it's okay to stay at your house, I might take you up on it, lol. Here's the main website: http://www.ocarinafestival.it/

It takes place the first weekend of May (May 1-3). The only problem on my end (besides the money, haha) is that final exams begin on the May 4th. If I can take some finals early, however, I just may be able to go! I'll see which teachers I can negotiate with, lol.

So, will MO have some sort of "official" presence at the Missouri Ocarinafest in August?  I'm not sure what I mean by "official," since I've never been to one of these things, and don't really know how they work.  But I'm thinking in terms of booths or something.  It seems like it would be a good idea.

Hi, Ubi, we'll want to support the OcFest in any way that we can.  It's been super busy around here, but I'm going to call or email David very soon to ask how we can help.

Karl, if you want some representation, I will gladly go as a representative! I'll just need a plane ticket and some ocarinas to sell! ;D

Don't worry, I'm joking. But, between now and then I'm going to being trying to find a way to go!

I'm thinking we could fly you on our corporate jet. (You'll have to email us your menu choices for the flight; our private chef likes to know these things in advance.)  Of course, it goes without saying that we would provide an unlimited expense account and generous traveling money. :)

Seriously, I am planning to go to the OcFest myself.  As the time draws near, we should arrange carpools, etc.   So, perhaps we could offer you a ride in the corporate subcompact.

Lol! I didn't think small businesses had corporate jets!

If you are going, I'm definitely going to have to do everything I can to get there! You have added another person to my list of people who I want to meet from the Ocarina world who will be there!

Carpools sound like a great idea! I will just have to run the idea by my parents :D

What an exciting event (even though I'm in Australia).

I see that your forum is up :)
http://forums.ocarinafestival.net/index/

David, I think there's a problem - I was trying to join it and it says both "kissing" and "kissing88" usernames are unavailable since someone has already taken it.
Should I be worried that there are people out there who wish to impersonate me on your forum?

Nevertheless, I'm interested in joining to keep up to date with how the first ocarina festival in America will go  8)

(ok, here goes my first post!)
I soooo hope I can make it to the festival!!!
My dad said he would bring me if I pay for hotel costs... that means saving money...and deciding which is more important: my first Mountain Ocarina or going to the OcFest...

I wish I could go, but it's expensive to trip from Brazil to Missouri, and pay the hotels, food, new ocarinas.
If anyone see a sale to go there please tell me

I would also like some more (updated) information.

I plan on going as well, given that I have the money to go at the time, of course. I could also use couchsurfing.com to slash hotel costs when the time comes. Guess I'll have to start saving. :)

I would be interested in new info also. I will be traveling to Kansas city around that time. We are driving out so we might be able to stop in to take in some ocarina culture.
