While playing my G mountain ocarina with a tuner, I noticed that it tends to play in G# rather than G, and that playing in G requires quite a breath cut. Anyone else notice this or am I just blowing too hard?

I've never noticed it. I play with a tuner a lot and I seem to be able to keep it in tune reasonably good.
I'm not sure but but I think if there's dirt around the inner walls of the fingerholes it might affect the tuning of the instrument.

I would say that you are blowing too hard, but a good cleaning every now and then wouldn't hurt.
