So, if you've read the off topic New Year's Resolution thread you probably know I am attempting to play all the songs in the MO Celtic tune book. I was hoping to do them pretty accurately and as written without ornamentation so that perhaps if newer musicians are having trouble reading some of the more obscure tunes they might have a reference. (Well, maybe...) This is a really strenuous thing for me so please be kind, but I welcome corrections to my rythmic floundering and all other helps to improve!  Anyway, let's see we're 8 days in so- in no particular order... here goes...

Ugh! I don't know what I was thinking- Please chalk that up to a loose nut behind the switch! The computer and I don't really get along very well! Sorry. Better now! Roll Eyes

Oh and if you're wondering why some say "for Dad" it's because originally I was making him a little CD for his Birthday. That's what started this...( Gee, thanks Dad.... Tongue)

Thanks Jim Smiley

I feel compelled to forwarn anyone who may listen that there may be some Cockatiel or Budgie eruptions on the recordings, they can be a trifle surprising, but I am having a hard time convincing them to be quiet because I'm trying to record a song! Similarly boy and Man speak. While they are supportive of my goals- they are not their own....Imagine! Cheesy (I don't think there's a whole lot of this)

I also apologize for any of my triple recordings that remain, I thought I got them all but I think a couple may have got by me- at the time I was not having tremendous success with keeping it in tune. Sad

I was going to wait to do this, but why? and 35 is different than 34 Smiley it's not a typo.

Hey, thanks for doing this! Keep it up. I'm much more of a "by ear" guy, so having an audio reference for these songs is really helpful and will ultimately help my sight reading abilities as well.

Here in the old world we only have 24 hours a day. Guess you gotta have double that out west  Grin

Nah, if we did, surely they'd all be embellished and without errors! Roll Eyes Actually, what we have out west here is a woefully unkempt house!

BTW... Anyone listening will be grateful that I think my tolerances are getting tighter! LOL! Hopefully, there will be less fumbles as I progress!
I am finding the use of recordings to be very helpful.  Especially if left then come back to in a day or two. You get to a point it seems you don't really hear yourself so if you record then come back you can easily hear the good stuff as well as the not so good.

Really hearing how much I've been struggling with the high notes on my warmstone C has given me a good goal for my practice and also taught me more about how my instrument works in my environment, more quickly than I might have come to understand it otherwise.  I was cruising around looking for tips when I happened upon the "What are your challenges"-"Hitting the high notes" thread.  If anyone else is having challenges with this I recommend that you read Karls post of Feb 27, 2011. It hit the spot!  Now, I'm going to go practice some more!

You're doing an amazing job! And it's very inspirational, one of my biggest problems is that I know very few songs, so listening you play some many different catchy tunes makes me want to learn more stuff.

I should definitely get that songbook, I love MO's and I love Celtic music, it's a crime that I don't have it.

FWIW, there are over 50 "official" extracts from 300 Celtic Folktunes available on this site, some in the "sample pages" in the sales catalogue in GIF format, and some PDF's published by Cliff elsewhere (that I can't find at the moment, but I've downloaded them so I know they exist)

EDIT: - found those pdf's ... http://www.mountainsocarina.com/lessons/lesson06-g5p.html
