Josh, I'd guess you were learning one measure at a time, then adding the next measure.

Doing it that way you TRAIN yourself to stop at the end of each measure.

That's why animal trainers from rats and cats to dolphins and orcas train the critter to do the LAST segment of a multi-phase task.

Once the last segment (measure, or two if that's how you approach the end) is learned ok, add the next-to-last so when you finish each try at that "next" you just wheel into the measure you've already learned. Without stopping at the end of the "next". And the first-learned, last measure is the only one you have trained yourself to stop at.

Then the next to next, etc.
